Hi, This is my first post here.
Firstly I would like to apologise for posting in English but my Finnish is very poor.
I am in the process of planning my Honeymoon for June 2012, part of the trip will be from Sank-Peterburg to Helsinki & from Helsinki on to Turku for a ferry to Stockholm, whilst in Finland I would like ride some gravel roads & see a little of the country, I will be riding with my new wife as a pillion so I am looking for some interesting rides off the main routes.
Can anyone suggest some routes please? This will be my first visit to the area & any help will be very much appreciated.
Andy
Welcome Andy
How much time do you have to spend between Helsinki-Turku?
One solution for a main route is this http://www.kuninkaantie.net/ (in finnish sorry)
Old postroute, unfortunately mainly on tarmac, but you can easily cut corners and take gravelroads between small cities/villages.
I think quite many forum readers know south-east Finland like their own pockets, so they can easily help you.
Do you know how many days you might stay in Finland?
Do you plan to camp or need hotel/cottage?
South-east Finland is full of lakes, so it is worth to visit.
Unfortunately, I do not know this area so cannot help you more.
Are you absolutely sure that also your new wife will want to make that tour? On gravel roads? If so, there will be many different types of roads to try. Small paved roads, larger gravel roads, small forestry roads and even paths you can ride with an enduro bike. There are certain restrictions though regarding riding in the forest. But on the Russian side of the border there are even more possibilities since almost all roads are unpaved and very few restrictions apply.
I'm sure we can find good routes for you. It's just hard to know where to start. I could give some advise about roads close to Lahti if you plan to ride via this region.
Thank you for the replies.
My partner has spent plenty of time on the back of the bike, not on gravel though.
We plan to use a mixture of camping & hostels depending on location, mostly camping we hope.
The suggested routes are useful, the Archipelago route looks interesting too, thank you again, not sure how much time we intend to spend between Helsinki & Turku as I am still trying to work out the whole trip but I am guessing 2 or 3 days.
Any more suggestions for places/areas to see in the area or more routes would be very welcome.

I can be the quide on gravel/tarmac roads area of Punkaharju,Savonlinna,Puumala for example. Just let me know the exact day or two days for riding? Do not hesitate to contact me if you are coming little bit northern on southeast Finland.
En tapani mukaan jaksanut lukea kaikkea "Andyn"-shaisse viestejä. Pitäiskö antaa isoja vai pieniä teitä. Vai oliko tämä pelkästään
nettirosmo/robotti.

Andy on todellinen henkilö jonka tapasin saksassa kokoontumisajoissa.
